In January and February, as Britain’s temperatures and sales figures plummeted with the sub-zero temperatures, Pegasus Retirement Homes’ sales offices bucked the trend and were busier than they had been for six months.  Across all the Pegasus sites, reservations in January are up by 60% on the same month in 2009 and February sales are already exceeding expectations.

An almost unnoticed change is happening in property development – older people are returning to live in town centres. Whilst in the 19th and 20th centuries retired people migrated to leafy suburbia or to the Mediterranean countries to live in peaceful contentment, the 21st century pensioner wants to live closer to the action or in towns not traditionally associated with retirement. This is because the newly retired 60-year old is not of the same generation as an 80-year old, yet, they are both bracketed together as "retired".

Flagship Pegasus Court knocks buyers for 6! »

The latest Pegasus Court retirement development, that has risen from the ashes of the former Stragglers’ Bar at Somerset County Cricket Ground in Taunton, has been described by its developer as the company’s national flagship. The development of 65 retirement apartments was opened officially recently and had over 300 people to look around the building in the first three days.
